The Daily Scoop is a gourmet gelato outlet in Wodonga. Starting with a traditional European gelato recipe which we surprised Wodonga with in Summer’07 we will continue to bring new flavours for everyone to enjoy.
Many have already asked how is our ice cream different from the standard ice cream in the supermarkets? Well, let’s say “gelato”, also called ‘Artisan Ice Cream’ (meaning ‘made by hand’) is a high quality product, made with love and dedication to quality. We do not use any preservatives, artificial colouring, and use only the best ingredients, with a personal touch.
Other points to remember about the Industrial Ice Cream are:
-
Gelato is made in small batches of about 5 litres or less, while industrial Ice Cream is made in thousands of litres at a time;
-
The overrun (aeration) of Gelato is usually around 20-25%, compared to up to 100% in Industrial Ice Cream;
-
The texture and mouth feel is ‘solid’ and rich, not comparable to rougher structure of “hard” industrial ice cream;
-
A bigger variety of flavouring ingredients including fresh fruit is available – you have only seen a handful of flavours in industrial ice cream for a reason…
-
We serve our ice cream at minus 15 to 19 degrees Celsius, compared to around -20 degrees for industrial ice cream.
